Google answer session 4-12-07

I know I know! So soon after, I’m sorry.  However, there were two that could not be ignored!

“Send buttons on cell phones”

Aside from something witty, truly there are not direct ‘send’ buttons.  As anyone who text messages knows, we use whatever ‘action’ button is attached to ‘send’ at that time.  The phone GUI will literally say ‘send’ and we press the corresponding action button.  Kay?

“Sansa TiVo”

Ok, first you put in TiVo rather than tivo, so you must know something, right?  This confuses and amazes me.   Truly…if you happen on here again…please explain!

Google answer session 10/20/06

Yup, another google answer session!

pioneer ipod controller sucks
Well, I wouldn’t say it sucks, but you do have a point that it could be better.

“you got me”
Boo!!!!!!

how to take off a ipod faceplate
My dear, iPods do not have faceplates, they have….the thing that is the front of the player. Your search should have been “how to open ipod” and the answer would be “guitar pick”, or at least back in the day it was. The mini (and I guess the new nanos) are a bit sketchy to open…so ya. Either way, iPods do not have faceplates. *ahem* IPODS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!!!!111!!

send photo cingular cripple motorola
You might assume that cingular crippled moto phones for this feature, but nay, it is simply a bit cracked out to figure out how to do. Reference your manual, you basically have to use the ‘copy’ function.

iPod Integration for Volkswagen jetta
AVOID!!! It’s all about the aftermarket baby.

Another lovely google search that turned out linking to me…

Search: “how to turn the v3c into a mp3 player”

Answer: You don’t, you just buy one and move on.

That is all.

Dear Apple, please impress me

I have rarely been impressed by a new product release.  Either the product has so many quirks I want to burn it, or it works as expected but there’s nothing I’m particularly gaga about.

The ideas behind Apple products make me stalk the rumor sites at first, but by the time the products make it to stores the quirks have bobbed up to the surface and ruined any excitement left after the price tag.

Why can’t a company make a product that doesn’t have errors/quirks in it?  Don’t companies test these things out on random people to find out if they will work right without knowing all the little tricks so you don’t want to stomp on it?

What has been the biggest disappointment for you?  For me, it was the nano.  The idea of it just wasn’t executed correctly.

To SIM card or not to SIM card?

(edit: since I seem to get a lot of search hits for “verizon sim card” I feel need to put this out there:  verizon does not use sim cards)

To SIM or not to SIM…it’s an odd issue.

Verizon, to my understanding, has a better network hands down.  However, they do tend to cripple the bluetooth on their phones, unless you want to hack them.  If you live in rural areas, go Verizion.

I’m a little partial to my SIM cards though.  I like being able to throw my card into a new phone and just go to town.  Such as, if I want to have a bigger smart phone I can throw my SIM card into my RAZR when I want to go out to the bars and need a smaller phone.

T-mobile has the cheapest internet prices, which is why I’m interested in switching to them.  Cingular seems to be a good general company, plus they’re getting all of the itunes phones.

The great thing about Cingular, I don’t know about t-mobile, is that if your phone breaks, you can just go in and sign up for another 2 year contract (starting that day, not at the end of your old one) and get the hard core discount on the phone.  Still, though, if I were to get a smartphone I think I’d spring for the extra $200 and get an unlocked one.

I wouldn’t say that there is any perfect company, but everyone has diff needs.

Impressed? Not yet.

I have yet to really be impressed by a cell phone.  The RAZR got my attention because it was what I needed in a phone:  small yet fully featured.  I want something like the MDA/8125.  I have been impressed by their design concept, the basic physical build of the phones. However, I've yet to be truly impressed by an OS.  Palm is nice and simple, yet ugly and just not what I'm looking for.  Windows mobile?  Getting there, but kind of still under the "I want to throw this out of the window".

Once I'm impressed by a phone I'd think of switching to get it, but until then I'm content with my RAZR.

Sony, a little to the left…right…left…no…just nevermind

Sony has always been an interesting company, hated on by some and glorified by others.  Well, I'm sure there are sony fanboys out there that aren't PS* obsessed.  In looking at phones and especially mp3 players, Sony has it going on with the form bit.  I mean, seriously, you will rarely find somthing by sony you want to crap on to make look more pleasing (except for maybe a few Vaios).

So why does a company with such a good track record on form completely miss the boat when it comes to function?  That previously linked mp3 player?  Ya, I still never figured out how to use it, and I've been playing with that demo unit for a year.  The Bean?  I'm sorry but that one requires a flyswatter upside the head.  Need I even mention the other issudes that come with a Sony mp3 player?  If you're going to control the usability of a product to one program, at least make it work mostly without suck.

The new Ericssons look freaking amazing to me. Like I'd go out and test drive it if I were in the market. However, Sony's track record of suck both on primary use (the actual unit) and secondary use (the sofware/setup) make me extremely cautious about investing in one of their products.
